My Story

Ms. Cathy Harrison grew up in the beautiful Gulf Coast city of Corpus Christi, Texas.  Ms. Harrison's guitar, piano, and electric bass music teaching studio of 27 years,  Cathy Harrison's Music Studio,  is based in Corpus Christi.   Ms. Harrison has also taught both Latchkey Guitar and Fab Friday (volunteer program) guitar classes since 2013 at Windsor Park Elementary School, Corpus Christi Independent School District's gifted and talented elementary magnet school .

  Ms. Harrison received the Texas Education Agency K-12 Music Certificate in 1999. Ms. Harrison is a current  member of the Texas Music Educator's Association, and she was elected to ASCAP,  the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers, in 1998.

 Ms. Harrison has been a choir member and guitarist with the Corpus Christi Cathedral Pontifical Chorale as well as a  Worship Leader/guitarist  for Folk Masses at St. Patrick Church in Corpus Christi.  Ms. Harrison was fortunate to have studied with Del Mar College/Texas A & M-Corpus Christi classical/jazz guitar professor, Mr. Chester G. Rupe and served as his rhythm guitarist in gigs at a local restaurant.   Mr. Rupe had the distinction of being asked by the world's great classical guitarist Andres Segovia to critique his playing when he gave periodic local concerts in Corpus Christi.

Ms. Harrison has approximately 75 musical compositions to her credit, 40 of which are children's educational, fun, and relaxing songs.  To quote Grammy Award winner J. Aaron Brown regarding Ms. Harrison's  "Brand New Day", one of her soothing lullabies, he stated  " I love "Brand New Day!"".

In 2006, Ms. Harrison had the distinction of partnering with the PTO of Sonnie G. Penn Elementary School in Woodbridge, Virginia (35 miles out of Washington, DC) where Ms. Harrison taught General Music to 1,000 students, to co-produce her fundraiser album "Wake-Up Singing."   Funds generated from the sale of 200 CDs, which featured Ms. Harrison's beautiful and upbeat children's songs performed by her hand-picked kindergarten-fifth grade student choral ensembles, went entirely to the school for needed equipment.  

In 2009, Ms. Harrison was honored to be approached by the McKee Corporation, makers of the popular "Little Debbie" snack and pastry products, to request her permission to  use her copyrighted  children's cute, fun  song "Cupcakes" in a parade celebrating their 50th anniversary and National Cupcake Month.

Ms. Harrison has produced her own local musical television show entitled "Cathy Harrison's Musical Showcase" since 2010.  This show is broadcast on Cable Channel 10 and airs on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm.   "Cathy Harrison's Musical Showcase" generally features Ms. Harrison singing her own copyrighted children's educational, fun, and relaxing songs, as well as her copyrighted Americana and sacred songs to her guitar accompaniment.  Additionally, Ms. Harrison periodically plays her own copyrighted guitar and piano solos.  Periodically, Ms. Harrison features her talented music students and colleagues on her show.  

Currently, Ms. Harrison is preparing several of her musical compositions, including her copyrighted gorgeous piano instrumental entitled  "Moonlit Skies", for submission  to several American educational, choral, and religious publishing companies for consideration.  In addition, Ms. Harrison stays busy teaching her local dedicated and talented music students and holds both a Spring and Winter Recital every  year.  Currently, recitals are held at Galilean Lutheran Church, 3321 Cimarron Blvd., Corpus Christi, TX  78413.
